Download instructions for Aircraft Register

The following instructions are provided as a guide only to down loading the Aircraft Register to a disk and loading the data into an Access database. It is recommended that, if help is required, you print these instructions before commencing.

To download the civil register

  1. Click on the file to down load
  2. Select 'File' option from menu bar at the top of the page
  3. Select 'Save As'
  4. Select appropriate drive from pull down menu in 'Save in' dialogue box
  5. Give the file a name (if a default name has appeared, you can leave this as the title, if preferred)
  6. Click on the pull down menu in 'Save as type' dialogue box and select 'Text'
  7. Click on the save button
  8. The file will save - after saving is completed click on 'Back' button
  9. The information can now be read from the disk or loaded into a data base (eg Access, Excel)

To load the information into MS Access

  1. Open Access data base
  2. Select 'Blank Database' in the 'Create a New Database Using' dialogue box
  3. Click 'OK'
  4. Select appropriate Drive in the 'Save In' dialogue box (this should be the drive in which you wish to save the database you are about to create)
  5. Enter a name in the 'File name' dialogue box (eg Aircraft Register)
  6. Use the pull down menu in the 'Save as Type' dialogue box and choose 'All Files'
  7. Click on 'Create' - you now have a blank database - a dialogue box will come up with the heading you have given (eg Aircraft Register : Database).
  8. Open the 'Tables' option
  9. Select 'File' option from the menu bar at the top of the page
  10. Hold the mouse over 'Get External Data' - this will bring up another option box
  11. Select 'Import'
  12. Select the file you wish to import by clicking on it. The 'file of types' should be selected as 'Text'.
  13. Click on 'Import'
  14. Text Import Wizard should now come up to help you load the data base
  15. In the first dialogue box select the 'delimited' option. Select 'Next'
  16. Select 'comma' as the delimiter that separates the fields. Check on first row contains Field names. Select 'Next'
  17. Select the appropriate table to store your data (eg In a New Table). Select 'Next'
  18. import the table, select 'Finish'
  19. When the information is correctly imported into your database you will receive message 'Finished importing.............. Select OK.

To load the information into MS Excel

  1. Open Excel
  2. Select 'File' option from the menu bar at the top of the page and click on Open
  3. Select the file you wish to import by clicking on it. The 'file of types' should be selected as 'Text'.
  4. Click on 'Open'
  5. Text Import Wizard should now come up to help you load the information
  6. In the first dialogue box select the 'delimited' option. Select 'Next'
  7. Select 'comma' as the delimiter that separates the fields. Select 'Next'
  8. To import the information, select 'Finish'
  9. Format 'datereg' cell to date. (Datereg is a date field)

Note : The first row of the file would contain the headings of the field to which they relate.
